Mid-South Falls In Baton Rouge
Southaven, MS-Â The Monarchs hit the road for an early matchup against the Kingfish. This would be the third time in as many nights that the two teams faced off, but the first time in Baton Rouge.
The first period got underway with Frank Trazzera scoring on the power play to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead. Baton Rouge answered when Jake Cox found enough room to put the puck in the back of the net, tying the game. The Kingfish then took the lead when Nick Ketola scored his first goal of the weekend. Baton Rouge held a 2-1 lead after the first period.
The Kingfish continued their offensive barrage as Jascon Brancheau scored on an odd-man rush to make it 3-1 in the second period. Jake Cox added to the lead before the period expired, giving Baton Rouge a three-goal advantage heading into the third period.
The third period saw the Monarchs inch closer when Sam Holeczy scored on a breakaway to pull the Monarchs within two. That would be as close as the Monarchs would get, as Tyler Willams finished off the empty-netter to give Baton Rouge a 5-2 victory.
Wyatt Friedlander stopped 31 of the 35 shots he faced in the loss. Meanwhile, Ed Coffey earned the win by saving 28 of the 30 shots he faced.
The Mid-South will be back in action next week when they welcome the Columbus River Dragons to the Landers Center for a two-game series. Both games will be streamed live on the Monarchs’ YouTube channel.
